Electric Vehicle Affordability Program (EVAP)

The Electric Vehicle Affordability Program (EVAP) is a new federal initiative designed to help make electric vehicles more affordable for Canadians. The program provides point‑of‑sale incentives for eligible electric vehicles purchased or leased in Canada.

What is EVAP?

EVAP encourages Canadians to switch to cleaner transportation by offering financial incentives when purchasing or leasing an eligible electric vehicle (EV). Unlike previous programs, EVAP focuses on the final transaction price of the vehicle rather than the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP).

How much support is available?

Depending on the type of electric vehicle you choose, you may be eligible for:

  • Up to $5,000 for a battery‑electric or fuel‑cell electric vehicle
  • Up to $2,500 for a plug‑in hybrid electric vehicle

These incentives are applied directly at the dealership, reducing the purchase or lease price right away.

Who is eligible?

You may be eligible if:

  • You purchase or lease a new electric vehicle on or after February 16, 2026
  • The vehicle has a final transaction value of $50,000 or less

How do I apply?

For most buyers, no application is required.

  • The incentive is applied at the dealership at the time of purchase or lease
  • Dealerships submit the paperwork directly to Transport Canada
  • The EVAP submission portal opens on March 31, 2026

Which vehicles qualify?

Transport Canada maintains an official list of eligible vehicles, which is updated regularly as new models become available.

Before buying or leasing, it’s always a good idea to:

  • Confirm the specific model and trim
  • Ask the dealership whether the vehicle qualifies under EVAP
