MP O’Rourke’s statement on Iran

My heart is with the courageous people of Iran who continue to protest for freedom, human rights, and an end to the regime’s brutal oppression. The unjust detention and deliberate killing of Iranians for demanding fundamental rights must stop. Too many lives have already been lost, and those responsible must be held accountable.

I have heard from many in our community who are deeply worried and frustrated by the regime’s deliberate efforts to block internet access and silence communication. Basic communications must be restored.

I echo the Prime Minister’s condemnation of the killing of protestors, the use of violence, arbitrary arrest, and intimidation tactics by the Iranian regime against its own people.

Canada continues to monitor developments closely and reiterate our call for the Iranian regime to uphold its international human rights obligations, including the rights to freedom of opinion, expression, and peaceful protest.

To Iranian‑Canadians in Guelph and across Canada: I see your pain. I hear your fear for loved ones. I stand with you. I remain committed to listening to our community and amplifying the voices of those fighting for freedom and human rights in Iran.
